Training Officer's Report
The training for 2008 is now in full swing. We currently have 6 trainees undergoing Ocean Diver Training in the pool. Four are nearing completion over the next few weeks. This has put significant pressure on equipment. We just don't have enough kit, which in one sense is great! The pool last Wednesday was the busiest it has been for a good long while. In practical terms though it is not so good, because juggling kit, making sure we have enough sets takes time each Wednesday evening.
We also have three Come & Trys waiting for a slot. If they are converted to trainees, then we are going to have a busy year training everybody.
We currently have three OWI's - myself, Alex and Barry (....welcome back!). We also have two Assisitant Instructors, Fabio and Aistis, who I hope will both be OWI's by the end of the season.
This branch does not have the facility to teach to Advanced Diver Level. Firstly, we do not have any OWI's who are Advanced Divers, and secondly some of the training modules need an Advanced Instructor (which we don't have)
Having said that, I am now also an Area Coach for Bermondsey, New Cross, Eltham and Meridian BSAC branches, so I'm sure some synergies can be set up. So watch this space on that one. I hope to be the first AI in the branch within a year.
One last thing. We need a volunteer to be our Equipment's Officer. Any takers?
